Sally Pope Davis
Sally Pope Davis is a highly accomplished financial executive with a distinguished 43-year career in the finance industry, retiring as a managing director from Goldman Sachs Asset Management in 2024. During her tenure at Goldman Sachs, Davis co-led one of the industry’s largest US small-cap value funds, showcasing her expertise in investments across the financial sector, including banking, insurance, capital markets, and specialty finance companies.
Davis’s 35-year career at Goldman Sachs began in 1989, where she initially excelled as a senior sell-side research analyst. Her focus on US regional banking companies during a period of significant industry consolidation and interstate banking set the foundation for her extensive expertise in financial analysis and investment management. She joined Goldman Sachs Asset Management in 2001 as a portfolio manager in Fundamental Equity where she was responsible for investments in mid- and large-cap commercial and investment banking companies. She joined the Small Cap Value Strategies team in 2006, became Co-Lead Portfolio Manager in 2009, and was promoted to Managing Director in 2010.
Davis began her career at Chase Manhattan Bank in 1981. In her roles in corporate finance and as Vice President in Capital Planning, she specialized in financial institutions and managed capital funding requirements for the corporation. Additionally, she worked at Brown Brothers Harriman, where she covered regional banks as a sell-side analyst from 1987 to 1989.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Davis contributes to the industry and community through her roles on several boards. She serves on the board of First Financial Bankshares (NASDAQ: FFIN), First Financial Bank, and First Financial Trust and Asset Management. Additionally, she is a board member of Core Specialty Insurance Holdings, Inc., based in Cincinnati, and serves on the Audit and Risk Management Committees.
Davis holds an MBA with a concentration in finance and economics from the University of Chicago. She earned her bachelor of science in finance, graduating summa cum laude from the University of Connecticut.
