Jimmy Tallent is chairman and chief executive officer of United Community Banks, Inc. (United) and its subsidiary bank, United Community Bank. United is a $11.2 billion bank holding company with 29 community banks and 142 offices serving communities throughout Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
Tallent has 40 years of banking industry experience, including 31 years with United. He was initially appointed president of United Community Bank – Union County in Blairsville, Georgia in 1984. He also oversaw the formation of its holding company in 1989. In March 2002, United's common stock was listed on the Nasdaq National Market and in July 2002 was listed in the Russell 2000 Index.
Tallent serves on the board of trustees for Young Harris College in Young Harris, Ga. and on several boards of directors, including for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Cities Foundation and Georgia Power Company. He is a former member of the board of directors for the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, and the Global Health Action. Tallent has also served as the State YMCA finance chairman.
Tallent is a past recipient of the Georgia Economic Developers Association’s “Spirit of Georgia” Award. The award is presented annually to a Georgia business executive "who has demonstrated superior ability, originality, potential impact, and courage in business development." Tallent has been recognized by Georgia Trend magazine as one of the "100 Most Influential Georgians" for 10 consecutive years.
Tallent is a past recipient of the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” Award for Financial Services in the Alabama/Georgia/Tennessee region.
A native of Habersham County, Ga., Tallent attended Young Harris College and Piedmont College. He is also a graduate of the Georgia Banking School in Athens.
Lynn Harton serves as the director and president of United Community Banks, Inc. Harton also serves as chief executive officer of the subsidiary bank, United Community Bank. Harton has more than 30 years of experience in the banking industry, with expertise in commercial banking, risk management, turnarounds, and change management. Harton is responsible for directing overall operations for United Community Bank and working alongside other members of senior management regarding the strategic direction and expansion of the $11.2 billion holding company.
Prior to joining United Community Banks in 2012, Harton was a consultant and special assistant to the chief executve officer and executive vice president of Commercial Banking for TD Bank Financial Group, headquartered in Cherry Hill, NJ. Prior to joining TD Bank, Harton held the positions of president and chief executive officer, head of commercial banking and head of credit and risk at The South Financial Group (which was sold to TD Bank). He also has held various executive positions at Regions Financial Corporation, Union Planters Corporation and BB&T.
Harton earned his bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and has participated in various executive programs at Duke University, Wharton, Columbia, Northwestern, the University of North Carolina and the University of South Carolina. He serves as a director of RMA (The Risk Management Association) and serves on its Community Bank Council. He also has served on a number of additional financial boards and committees throughout his career, including the Palmetto Business Forum, RMA National Credit Risk Council, CBA National Small Business Banking Committee, and the Equifax Small Business Financial Exchange.
Harton lives in Greenville with wife Flavia, and serves on a number of community boards, including The Greenville County Museum Association and The Peace Center for the Performing Arts.
