Jimmy Tallent is executive chairman of United Community Banks, Inc. (United) and its subsidiary bank, United Community Bank. United is a $12.3 billion bank holding company with 29 community banks and over 150 offices serving communities throughout Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Tallent has 40 years of banking industry experience, including over 30 years with United. He was initially appointed president of United Community Bank – Union County in Blairsville, Georgia in 1984. He also oversaw the formation of its holding company in 1989. In March 2002, United’s common stock was listed on the Nasdaq National Market, and in July 2002, was listed in the Russell 2000 Index.
Tallent serves on the board of trustees for Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia and on several boards of directors, including those for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Cities Foundation and Georgia Power Company. He is a former member of the board of directors for the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education and the Global Health Action. Tallent has also served as the State YMCA finance chairman.
Tallent is a past recipient of the Georgia Economic Developers Association’s “Spirit of Georgia” award. The award is presented annually to a Georgia business executive “who has demonstrated superior ability, originality, potential impact and courage in business development.” Tallent has been recognized by Georgia Trend magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential Georgians” for 10 consecutive years.
Tallent is a past recipient of the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” Award for Financial Services in the Alabama/Georgia/Tennessee region.
A native of Habersham County, Georgia, Tallent attended Young Harris College and Piedmont College. He is also a graduate of the Georgia Banking School in Athens.
